about me

Thank you so much for visiting my blog.

Time to introduce myself:

this is me

My official (maiden) name is Joanna de Koning, born in 1964… a very good year =D  !

I am called Hanny, but as it’s a bit of a funny name in English…you pronounce it  ‘honey’ I will use my official name here..so it’s  Joanna!

I am happily married (my married name is ‘van Kuijck’, which can’t be pronounce in English at all) and we have two beautiful children, lucky me!

I live in Kaatsheuvel, the Netherlands. I have my own company in which I work parttime on my ‘fortune’. Helping other people to fulfill their dreams, so I can fulfill mine…

But the thing I love to do most is being creative…in all sorts of ways, whether it is drawing, painting,  sculpture, photography or editing these pictures in PhotoShop…I  love it all!

But as you can imagine… I lack time to do all those things. That’s why I started this blog because in this way I ‘force’ myself to do at least one of the things I love to do: taking pictures! A couple of months ago I bought myself a brand new camera: CANON EOS 60D and I am soooooo happy with this one. That is the reason I chose photography instead of one of the other things I love to do.

I will try to post each and every day of this year -at least- one picture. The subject of my pictures? For me it was not that hard to make a choice: I chose water, because it always fascinated me… and still does.

Blogging is also a way for me to connect to other photographers and of course to ‘non-photographers’ as well and I hope I will learn a lot from each and every one of them.

Please feel free to help me in my photography-/blog journey with tips and advice.

I really hope you enjoy visiting my blog!

With love, Joanna

update March 9th 2014
As you’ve probably noticed I’ve extended my project…at first I wanted to go on till I had 500 photo’s…posting one photo each day … and now I will continue till number 1000. So far I am very proud of myself keeping my promise to myself and already went from zero till photo number 797! I’ve ‘met’ a lot of wonderful people here and now over 900! people are following my journey…AMAZING! Thank you all for your encouragement!
Up to number 1000!

update March 1st 2018                                                                                                                          I had made it until I’ve reached 1218 pictures, posted each and every day. After that I’ve done almost nothing on this blog; lack of time and a lot of personal stuff. Anyway, from today on I will continue my H2O-project. I won’t be posting on a daily basis any more, but I will still post my photo’s with water here and we’ll see how far I will come…I really hope you continue to enjoy these pictures.                                                                                       with love Joanna

  1. I like the idea of daily photos. The ones I saw were very nice (I would say good, but I am not a pro, so not qualified to judge beyond what I like).

I’m trying a post a day as well, but I tend to diversify what I post. More than photography, but the majority is about pictures I take.

I am subscribing because I want to see the water theme played out. I have a few ideas of my own for water-themed pictures, and will eventually get to them.

    • Thank you for visiting my blog. I am no pro either…I love taking pictures, but still have to and want to learn a lot. I found your pictures from the hawk marvelous…I wish I can shoot something like that sometime.. Take care and I will follow you as well

      • Hmmm . . . perhaps you might want to take a look at the posts I do before subscribing. I have a mix that people sometime find annoying.

Those who know me often ignore my rants (religion, politics, guns, etc) and just look at the writing and photos, but people who don’t know me sometimes get offended.

Just saying you need not follow me just because I followed you.

    • Thanks Graham for following me and your nice comment on my photos! I am absolutely no pro… still learning and improving, but it’s very encouraging to see so many kind people that appreciate my work! Thanks for stopping by. I’ll keep an eye on your blog as well…nice stuff you’ve posted there!

  2. Thanks, Joanna for the “like” on my post “Freeze-Dried Mystery” today. Glad to meet you. I love, love your subject! The first few photos I have seen so far are fantastic. Will enjoy following your blog.

  3. Hi Joanna thank you for visiting my blog and liking my post. I enjoyed reading your bio. And I love the Netherlands having been there (Deventer) with other artists for an exhibit. I willsubscribe to your blog. Hope you will subscribe to mine. Looking forward to connecting.

    • Well thank you so much on nominating me…I am honored, I will post something about this one of these days, want to find out what it is all about…today and tomorrow are really busy days for me…so pls have a little patience..

    • Thank you for stopping by and following! and what will happen tomorrow…just wait and see;)
sometimes I don’t know myself and as you said…. I have to be creative, one advantage: I am pretty creative so I think it’ll work out…

  4. what a delightful blog, very unique with your h2o photography. I also enjoy photo shop. your images are just wonderful ;o)

    • Hi Sheila, I am honored that you’ve nominated me, but I once spent a complete post about these awards. As you can read it in my blog somewhere, … I will turn it down. I hope I don’t offend you with turning it down, that is absolutely not my goal, but my feelings are just not right about them.
I will congratulate you with your nomination, you deserve it! Keep up your good work and I hope we continue to ‘follow’ each other and that you have no hard feelings about this.

    • Hi Donald I don’t know what you mean by this? Where did you find my pics? Is it when you search on topics and choose one? Pls help me out here, so maybe I can give you a proper answer..

      • Yes I look in tags-photography and you are there two days in a row. I tag all my work and saw myself one single time on like the fifteenth page. I see a lot of mediocre shots there everyday and only hope for a fair shake at getting noticed. I am not on facebook, but i think somehow that helps. are you on facebook?

        • I think you just have to look more quickly after you post one of you pics… I found out that when I post something and properly tagged, and then search on for instance photography you WILL see your picture there on the first page. But everyone who posts something with the same tag, will come before you… So if you look after two hours or something your pic will be shown on page 10 or… I just say a number. Last posts will be shown on first page.
Hope this is what you wanted to know. Just check it out… Post something and immediately check on tag photography, I am convinced you will see your photo right there on the front page.. 🙂 I am not sure but I don’t think FB has something to do with it.

  5. Thank you Joanna for the visit to my site! I have relatives through marriage nearby you in Kerkrade! My Aunt by marriage lives there, and there are other relatives who live around the area! Nice site that you have here! It is fun, isn’t it, to be able to touch so many in so many different places! You take care–Barb

    • Hi Barb, nice to hear you have some relatives living nearby… how small can our world be?
And I still find it amazing how many people are interested in my blogging… I simply have no words to describe 🙂
It’s incredibly nice to meet so many people from all over the world and connect in one way or another…it gives me so much joy!
Thanks for your visit and keep up your good work ~Joanna~

  6. I like the idea of a theme, just the one topic WATER gives you enormous scope, but also potential for all manner of special shots. I like the water drops on the Spa bottle.

  7. Hi Joanna!

I’m not good at knowing how to link everyone up, and by everyone I mean yourself, Niasunset, myself and george weaver. Just wanted to let you know that I will post the picture of the little squirrel hat that Nia knitted as soon as it arrives…and is presented to the bald squirrel…I have sent Nia a message to see if she would like me to mail her a pair of little “squirrel underpants” that I bought at a store..(I am not kidding!)..so as nia says, “the story continues”. LOL!!!

    • Thank you so much Jeremy… I really appreciate that! But as you can read in my reply to Sheila here above… I am turning it down. Hope I’m not offending you! Wishing you a great weekend! 🙂

  8. HI Joanna… I still have one more greeting card left over and I did promise that you would be first on my list for receiving one. If you would still like one, please email me a postal address, and I will get it out to you ASAP. It’s nothing too exciting, just my small way of saying Thank You for all your support.

    hugs

    • Oooooh Tracie, I am so happy with this and I feel so honored! THANX xoxox
      I am sorry I didn’t reply sooner… I think I missed it in all comments…
      I’ll send you an email…

    • Hi Cedric, I thank you for tagging me, but as for awards, this tagging-thing gives me the chain-letter feeling, and I really don’t like that! So I hope I don’t offend you by turning this down…. I really appreciate your work and everything, but I decided for myself I will not be anticipating in this kind of ‘stuff’. Have a great day!

    • Thank you so much Susan… and I wanted a theme because I like the structure in my photos… otherwise I think I would have been unstoppable… I find everything great to capture… you know what I mean? thanks for stopping by 😀

    • Thank you so much Anne for your kind words… and as I have explained in my post about awards and being tagged yesterday, I will not anticipate… I really hope you don’t feel offended…
Hope you have a fantastic week yourself !

  9. So glad I found your blog. I love it. I, too, was born in 64 and can attest to it being a good year. 😀 I look forward to following your posts. (Your bunny is so cute…)

  10. Looking forward to following your blog. I also am a fan of water, especially reflections. And like you, I like doing all things creative. I’m in the process of opening a gallery here in the North Cape. What kind of business do you own?

  11. Hello Little Sis!
I’ve just given you the Heart On Fire Award! Your creative and inspiring blog posts and photos (and enormous heart) earned you this award. There was no image for this award so I created one. Just go to my blog and scroll down on the right and there it is…feel free to use it.
You don’t have to do a thing to acknowledge the award if you don’t want to…If you do,
just go to my post for today 5/10/12 and do as I did. xoxoxoxoxo your big Sis

    • AsI already said on your blog: Congrats big Sis… you deserve it more than anyone…and thanks for nominating as well. But as you know in spite of my high appreciation and even YOU nominating me…I still will not participate in the whole award-thing… I simply lack time and still don’t like the chainletter idea. Love you for nominating though! Hope you are not offended xoxo

  12. Your water drops I appreciate and visualized in the other blog. I also found some magic in the water and their drops. The same magic that I can see in your blog that has lots of art.
    Adiós Juana

  14. very nicely done! I have a question — are you a water sign astrologically? (Cancer, Scorpio or Pisces). I’m wondering since – clearly – you love water.

      • well, you do know that each astrological sign is one of the four elements, and that Cancer is the first water sign, rite? To me, it makes a lot of sense, but I’m a professional numerologist (like being an astrologer without having to figure out geometry.) In any event, your photos are wonderful.

  15. I recently got a Canon PowerShot s110 and am in love with it! It takes amazing pictures so I can easily understand your love of photography! I also love water and underwater photography is brilliant fun! Love your pictures!! I’m looking forward to see them on a daily basis! 🙂

  16. I lived in Holland on and off for many years. The last time being for a period of sixteen years working in Eindhoven and ‘s Hertogenbosch. My mum (who is Dutch), my son and my brother (both English) all live there.
I just happened upon your blog this evening when I searched on ‘H2O’. Your photograph ‘1104 typical Dutch winter :D’ captured a mood that brought back many good memories! I look forward to exploring your blog, and your reasons for choosing water (the most valuable resource on earth) as a topic. Thanks again!
